The month of May is Blind Children’s Awareness month and what better time to host the Lady Bug Ball. Kim and Dana Wagner from My Channel 3 news hosted the Nevada Blind Children Foundations annual ladybug ballĀ held at Bellagio Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas strip.
The benefits theme focused on gourmet food prepared by three of Las Vegas’ top chefs. Martin Heirling from Sensi Restaurant at Bellagio created the first course of gnocchi Piedmontese with a spring garlic reduction, italian sausage and foraged wild mushrooms paired with an organic mache and dandelion salad.
Between courses guests were entertained with the music of Kellie Wright and her All-Swing Band. The 2011 Adopt-A-Ladbug campaign will raise money to sustain and grow current programs for Nevada Blind Childrens’ Foundation lay the foundation for creating the first-ever school for the blind in Nevada.
Next up, Chef Rick Moonen of RM Seafood at Mandalay Bay served up a tasty Tandoori spicy Char, onion caraway soubise, fava beans, purple fingerling, ramp riata and crispy char skin.
“This dish is very warming and with a charity isn’t that the whole idea, to warm hearts,” says Moonen
A video presentation was followed by the dessert course prepared by Megan Romano from Aureole at Mandalay Bay. Dark chocolate honey caramel tart with salted caramel ice cream sesame brittle and apricot coulis completed the multi-course meal.
A few of the night’s silent auction items included gift certificates from Brio Tuscan Grille, Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, MGM Grand, Pink Jeep Tours, Ravell Hotel and Sky Zone.
Frank Sinatra’, ‘Dean Martin’ and ‘Sammy Davis, Jr.’ from the Las Vegas stage show “The Rat Pack” performed closing out a great evening of gourment dining and fund raising.
